Issue Position: Health Care Reform

If the goal of Obamacare was to insure the country's 45 million uninsured, it has been a dismal failure. According the Wall Street Journal, only 11% of the 2.2 million people who signed up for health insurance through the health care exchange were previously uninsured. An alternative to Obamacare is deregulation -- the same deregulation that allowed Southwest Airlines to disrupt the airline market. Health insurance should be purchased by individuals rather than their employers, guaranteed-renewable, and portable. Insurers want to sell this insurance, and consumers want to buy it. What's stopping the free market from operating is tax law and regulation.
